We all want whiter, brighter teeth.  A beautiful

smile is a goal you can quickly achieve!!

Tooth whitening (or bleaching) is is an ideal way to enhance the beauty of your smile.

What is tooth whitening?

Tooth whitening is a process known as oxidation using peroxide solutions.  Any discolorations within the tooth will be lightened.  Organic materials break down to remove staining and create a whiter brighter smile.

What causes my teeth to discolor?

There are many causes of tooth discoloration.  Some of the most common include the consumption of highly colored foods (berries) and drinks (coffee, tea, red wine).  Antibiotics at a young age, aging, smoking and trauma can also result in discolorations.

How long will it last?

Indefinitely.  Just simply touch up your teeth a few times per year for one or two days.  Without a touch up, your teeth will start to re-stain by the same things that caused them to discolor in the first place.

Is the treatment safe?

Yes.  Clinical studies have shown that bleaching with carbamide or hydrogen peroxide under the supervision of a dental professional is safe for teeth and gums. It has been successfully used by millions of people since 1968 and does not harm your teeth.

What are the steps involved?

Dr. Chambers will evaluate you teeth to help you determine if you are a good candidate for tooth whitening. He will recommend the best alternative to get you a dazzling white smile. For take-home bleaching an impression is made of your teeth and a custom fit tray is made to closely fit over your teeth. You apply a whitening gel into the tray and wear it for up to 45 minutes a day to obtain whiter teeth in as few as 10 days.

What are the side effects?

For the majority of patients, there are none.  However, some will experience temporary sensitivity (dull or sharp, sensitivity to hot or cold).  This will subside after several hours of ceasing treatment.  If sensitivity is present, wear times can be shortened or made less frequent.  Additionally, adesensitizing gel may be used which will help decrease sensitivity and can be used before or after the whitening process.

How long does it take?

With in-office tooth whitening, the total treatment time will take less than 30 minutes ensuring you instant gratification. With take-home solutions it takes about 5-14 days by performing the treatment in the comfort of your own home.  With either option, you achieve a whiter, younger looking smile.

What if I have fillings or crowns in my teeth, will these change colour?

Whitening will not affect the color of crowns, fillings, or veneers. This is one of the reasons you should see Dr. Chambers before you whiten your teeth. Without a close look at your existing fillings you could end up looking worse after teeth whitening, or face costly filling replacements after you whiten your teeth.

What is the fastest way to whiten my teeth?

Dr. Chambers offers  the world’s fastest bleach, the answer for those patients living busy lifestyles. You get whiter teeth instantly with because of the extremely powerful peroxide. We carefully paint this solution on your teeth while protecting your gums and tissues. This procedure takes only 45 minutes to produce dramatic results which are then enhanced with take-home tooth whitening.

Why not just use “whitening strips” from the drugstore?

While there are a variety of consumer teeth whitening products available on the market today - many claim to be "instant whiteners" but rarely meet expectations. Most do not cover all the teeth that you can see in your smile. Whitening just the front six  teeth is often not enough and can make your other teeth appear darker and your smile less attractive. You need to check for existing fillings prior to tooth whitening, these are often difficult for you to see. Whitening your teeth will make your filling look darker and lead to costly filling replacement. Finally, with so many choices out there Dr. Chambers will recommend the exact product to suit your teeth and lifestyle and is healthiest for your mouth.  He will also be there to treat any of the complications that can occur, usually sensitive teeth.

Does it really work??

Yes, millions of people have successfully whitened their teeth. Studies have shown 9 out of 10 patients have a successful experience.  However, results vary on the teeth and the type of stain. Extrinsic stains like coffee, tea, wine, and cigarette staining respond very well.
